Ava Nebben and Xada Johnson Named Grow The Dream Scholars

PLYMOUTH, MN (May, 2024) — Prep Network announced the year two winners of the Grow the Dream scholarship award winners today. Ava Nebben (Monticello) and Xada Johnson (Clear Lake) are the 2024 Grow The Dream scholars.

Prep Network and the Grow the Dream Foundation share the mission of seeking to make college athletics a reality for more aspiring high schoolers across the country.

In year two, Prep Network saw a huge spike in applications from year one with many qualified and talented Class of 2024 student-athletes competing for the scholarship. The Grow The Dream Scholarship is a yearly scholarship for high school seniors who have earned a spot on an athletic roster at a college or university in the state of Minnesota. The winners have earned a $5,000 per year scholarship for their commitment to athletic and academic excellence (for up to 4 years).

MEET THE WINNERS

Ava Nebben of Monticello High School (MN)

Ava is the definition of a student-athlete. A member of the Monticello girls basketball program, student council, peer tutoring, unified executive board, and much more while maintaining a 3.99 GPA. Ava’s academic accomplishments speak for themselves, but what sets her apart is her positive attitude and tremendous work ethic. Ava was a part of a very successful Monticello Girls Basketball team that went 24-5 and were the Section 5AAA Runner-up. Nebben was a starter for the Magic and played in every game as a Senior.  She will be attending Hamline University where she will compete as a member of the Basketball team.

“Ava is the ultimate Team Player. She has a genuine care for her teammates, friends, and family, and that’s evident the second you meet her.” – stated Nick Carroll, Prep Network Co-Founder and CGO

Xada Johnson of Clear Lake High School (IA)

Xada is a four-sport standout athlete and student. She served as the captain of the Clear Lake Volleyball team for the past two seasons, an experience that she credits as shaping her leadership and communication skills greatly. Xada was an exceptional outside hitter for the Clear Lake Lions as a senior, posting 478 kills, which was good for the 10th most kills of any player in the state of Iowa last year. Outside of athletics, Johnson has been an active member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Model United Nations, and Speech & Drama club. She was also an ensemble member for the school musical Mamma Mia, and a member of the Clear Lake Bank & Trust Junior Board. Xada plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she will be playing for the Women’s Volleyball team. She hopes to one day open a psychiatric practice for children and adolescents to help those struggling with their mental health in today’s society.

“Xada is a rock star and wise beyond her years. I was most impressed by the clarity she has for where she wants to go in life. I have no doubt that she will do great things in this world.” said Nick Carroll

Stay tuned for future years of the Grow The Dream Foundation. Applications will begin again for Class of 2025 students in the Fall. If you know of someone who we should consider next year, have them keep close track of the page below!
