If you haven’t heard the name Madison Francis yet, shame on you. The heralded D1 commit out of New York’s Lancaster High School is taking the women’s game to new heights, literally.

On Wednesday, Overtime Select posted on Instagram, “I’m telling you this is not normal,” as commenters expressed shock and praise at the rare feat.

Nicknamed “Mattie”, Francis is believed to be the first girls player to dunk in the greater Buffalo area, and one of only a few to ever dunk in the state of New York. Even more impressive, the burgeoning star is 6’2”; shorter than some NBA legends like Steve Nash, who never successfully dunked in-game during his professional career.

Her first dunk came on Senior Night February 4, during a convincing 80-33 win over Williamsville North. Her second dunk came just ten days later, and is still making rounds on social media.

Francis, one of the best players in the country, and the number-one-ranked player in New York, will head down south to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the 2025-26 season.

Francis has been practicing dunking for years, first believing she could slam in 7th grade. She also became the first player in school history, boy or girl, to score 2,000 points in their career. Adding to her athletic prowess, the future Bulldog also played volleyball at Lancaster.

Francis represented Team USA at the FIBA U18 Women’s Americup in 2024, winning the gold, and was also named a McDonald’s All-American as a senior.

The sky’s the limit for the high-flying forward, showcasing the explosion of talent and growth in women’s hoops.
