Byron Nelson High School (Texas) has one of the most dominant girls volleyball programs of this era. And you should be paying attention. Currently 22-0, the Trophy Club, Texas, school is the number-one-ranked team in America.

They haven’t lost a match in over a year.

Under the leadership of Coach Brianne Groth, the Bobcats have won two Texas state titles and two national championships in the last five years. Currently on a 58-game win streak, the Bobcats aren’t slowing down.

The 2024 season stands as a masterclass in dominance. Byron Nelson finished with a near-perfect 40‑1 record, dropping only eight sets all year and going unblemished in nearly two months of play.

Their playoff run saw them not drop a single set, culminating in a sweep of Houston Stratford in the Class 6A Division II State Final (25‑20, 25‑13, 25‑14).

The Bobcats’ consistency earned them the coveted No. 1 ranking in the final MaxPreps national poll, making them the first Texas team to end the season atop the rankings since The Woodlands High School in 2013.

From October onward, Byron Nelson remained at the summit of the national landscape.

Their 2019 championship run was equally impressive. The Bobcats finished with a remarkable 50‑2 record, becoming the first volleyball team in Northwest Independent School District history to clinch a University Interscholastic League (UIL) state title.

Key Players Who Powered The Reign

  • Kylie Kleckner, Class of 2026: Named state final MVP, she crushed 23 kills and 9 digs in the championship match and amassed 596 kills over the season.
  • Ashlyn Seay, Class of 2026: The lethal counterpart to Kleckner, posting 20 kills and 9 digs in the title match. Coach Groth dubbed their duo “some of the top hitters I have ever coached.”

Prep Dig writer Guilherme Torres calls Seay “A big and physical outside hitter, she was the team’s go-to scorer and responded very well, combining her size and power with great decision-making and impressive technique to execute her shots.” Seay is currently committed to Rice University.

  • Sophee Peterson, Class of 2027: A national standout who tallied 1,480 assists, 271 digs, 199 kills, 75 blocks, and 48 aces for the season. She earned All‑America honors, and committed to play at Texas A&M.
  • Sydnee Peterson, Class of 2025: Returning from an ACL injury mid‑season, she contributed seven kills in the state final and brought invaluable leadership and inspiration to the team. Peterson also plays at Rice.

The Bobcats continue Friday with a match against Trinity. Will the all-time dominant squad continue its dominance, or will the streak be snapped?  Follow Prep Network and Prep Dig for continuing coverage.
