In October, global performance-tech company STATSports unveiled STATSports Academy, a new platform aimed at helping individual soccer players train like the world’s best pros.

Academy marries a FIFA-approved GPS tracking system (already used by over 2,000 professional teams worldwide) with a new app-based coaching ecosystem. The technology is sponsored by English soccer star Harry Kane.

Core Features:

  • Tracking of 24 performance metrics (including speed, distance, intensity and cardio) via the GPS vest.
  • A library of more than 200 drills covering warm-ups, agility, endurance, accelerations/decelerations and more, all with HD video coaching demonstrations.
  • Strength, recovery and nutrition modules developed by UEFA-licensed coaches and leading sport science experts.
  • No ongoing subscription fee, just a one-time purchase.
  • The full kit comes with a performance vest, GPS tracker, the personalized app, and a charging cable.

STATSports says the innovation is in response to a growing demand from “ambitious athletes” at youth, amateur or semi-pro levels who want to train smarter and monitor progress over time instead of relying on unstructured drills. The Northern Ireland-based company drew on billions of data-points from elite teams to build the new “intelligent and individualized performance system.” Their wearable GPS trackers have been used by organizations like USA Lacrosse.

With wearables and performance tracking infiltrating more amateur and youth sport environments, STATSports is expanding its reach beyond professional teams and into direct-to-consumer markets. The product’s one-time-purchase model also lowers barriers compared to subscription-based systems.
